Contemporary Metalpoint

Introducing the artwork of D. Lammie-Hanson, who has mastered the use of an ancient technique called silverpoint, also known as metalpoint. This technique dates back to the 15th century when metal wire and clay were used before the invention of the pencil. During the medieval era, metal was commonly used as a writing instrument by scribes and later became a preferred sketching tool for artists of the Renaissance and Gothic periods. Through self-teaching, D. Lammie-Hanson has created a stunning body of work utilizing this historic medium.
